Uranium Retention in Silica-Rich Natural Glasses: Nuclear Waste Disposal Aspect

چکیده
Uranium-containing glass samples with an age of 140–145 million years were collected within the volcanic rocks largest volcanic-related uranium ore deposit in world. Main features their composition are high concentrations silica and uranium, for this type. In contrast to this, ages fresh (unaltered) low-silica natural glasses a basic (basalts) usually do not exceed few years. -Experiments are described in which dose-response data have been obtained for EMT6 mouse tumour cells growing in vivo and exposed to various cytotoxic agents. A comparison has been made of the response of solid tumours in the flank and of rapidly growing lung nodules. The results are discussed with regard to their cell kinetic implications and compared with our results for the chemosensitivity ...
متن کاملIn Search of a Nuclear Waste Disposal Site
The choice of a site for high and intermediate level nuclear waste product material disposal in Jordan requires careful consideration of hydrology, hydrogeology, geological materials, seismicity, climate and other geological factors. The purpose of this paper is to explore how these factors in Jordan may affect the ultimate decision on where to site such a facility. Taking these factors into co...

When disposing nuclear waste in clay formations it is expected that the most radiotoxic elements like Pu, Np or Am move only a few centimetres to meters before they decay. Only a few radionuclides are able to reach the biosphere and contribute to their long-term exposure risks, mainly anionic species like I129, Cl36, Se79 and in some cases C14 and Tc99, whatever the scenario considered. The rec...
متن کاملEvaluation of the heat transfer rate increases in retention pools nuclear waste
In this paper, we have tried to find a solution for quick transfer of nuclear wastes from pools of cool water to dry stores to reduce the environmental concerns and financial cost of burying atomic waste. Therefore, the rate of heat transfer from atomic waste materials to the outer surface of the container should be increased. This can be achieved by covering the bottom of the pool space with c...
